How To Use GroupSheet

The following instruction will walk you through how to use GroupSheet. The first section of the instruction walks you though data population and group organization. The second section walks you through how to read the dashboard. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out via my Contact Page.

Populating Student Data

In this section, you’ll learn how to populate GroupSheet with your students’ data. Before beginning the data entry, you’ll need the following assessment results: MBTI & StrengthsFinders2.0. Additionally, if applicable, you’ll need to know program concentration. The more data you have, the better your student groupings will be.

Step 1: If you haven’t already, download GroupSheet and open in Excel

Step 2: You may see a message at the top of the spreadsheet that reads, “Security Warning Macros have been disabled.” If so, click the “Enable Content” button.

Step 3: Enter Last Name, starting in cell B8

Step 4: Enter First Name, starting in cell C8

Step 5: Notice that cell D8 populates the full student name

Step 6: If applicable, enter MBA concentration in cell G8

Step 7: Enter MBTI type in cell H8

Step 8: Enter Strengths 1-5 in cells J8:N8

Step 9: If you need to add more students than the table provides, unhide rows up to 200 and copy formulas down.

Create New Sheet For Grouping Activity

Creating a new tab for the grouping exercise allows future professors to see what groups students have been in before and avoid duplication.

Step 1: In cell G3, select which strength you’d like to utilize for grouping (recommended “Dominant”). If prior groupings exist from other professors, check which strengths were used and select a new one.

Step 2: Click blue “Click Here” button in cell D6 and you’ll notice that a new tab has been created called, “Blank Data Table (2)”

Step 3: Rename the tab whatever works well for you. For this instruction, I labeled the tab after Mary Henderson’s MBA 6100 class

Grouping Students

Step 1: In the newly created tab, sort column F (Combination) in ascending order

Step 2: In column E (Group), manually group students. For example, if you have 4 groups, please see the image below.

Understanding The GroupSheet Summary Dashboard

If you’ve entered all of the data correctly in the “Blank Data Table” tab, your GroupSheet Summary Dashboard should be populated. The Dashboard is intended to help you understand the personality types and strengths composition of your class.

Step 1: Navigate to the “Summary Dashboard” tab

Step 2: The first chart you’ll see is “Strengths Categories 1-5”. This chart shows you class strength distribution based on the strengths data entered in the “Blank Data Table” tab. In the example below, you’ll notice that “Relationships” is the most dominant strength in “Strength 1”.

Step 3: To learn more about each strength, type in the strength name in cell H26, and the detail will display in the area below.

Step 4: The next chart covers your class’s overall “Dominant Strength” across all 5 strengths added in the “Blank Data Table” tab. In order for this chart to populate, you must set cell G3 in the “Blank Data Table” tab to “Dominant”.

Step 5: To learn more about each strength, type in the strength name in cell H26, and the detail will display in the area below.

Step 6: The next chart covers your class’s overall MBTI distribution as entered in the “Blank Data Table” tab. This chart will help you understand the variety of personality types in your class.

Step 8: The final chart covers your class’s MBTI Preference Dimension distribution. Here’s an easy to understand explanation of what preference dimensions are:

“These are; how we are energised, the type of information we prefer to pay attention to, how we make decisions and the type of lifestyle we prefer to lead. The Team Management Profile explores these as work-based preferences rather than ‘whole life’.” – Source

Step 9: To learn about specific dimensions, type in cell I118, the dimension you wish to learn about and the description will appear in the box below. For the purposes of this instruction, “Judging vs. Perceiving” is being used.
